F150 Buyer Back For More
Had a 2011 F150 Platinum Ecoboost with 156K miles, traded that for a similarly configured 2018. Had waited years for a half-ton diesel, but after crunching the numbers (and factoring in the $2400 option and exclusion on the $3000 private cash offer) went with the 3.5L Ecoboost instead.
Vehicles I've Owned
- 1984 Ford Bronco W351 - 4 gallons/mile - in retrospect, the best way to keep your kids home on weekends
- 1993 Chevy K1500 Z71 Ext Cab 6.2L Diesel - Took it from 137K to 173K miles
- 1999 GMC K1500 Z71 Ext Cab 5.3L - sold to my brother, was later wrecked
- 2006 Dodge Ram 1500 4x4 5.7 Hemi - worst end-to-end vehicle experience of my life
- 2011 and now 2018 F150, aforementioned.
I also have a 1981 DeLorean and 2007 Lotus Exige S for those keeping score at home, but they're not daily drivers.
I started looking at vehicles like the BMW X5M, Land Rover HSE Sport, GMC Yukon Denali, but my excellent experience from day one with my 2011 F150 made me not want to sway from Ford. I tried to talk myself into an F250 Powerstroke, but I haul absolutely nothing and live in a medium-sized metropolitan area. I'd be dreading parking garages and public spaces for years. So I wound up with a decent deal on a 2018 Blue Jeans, Platinum 4x4 3.5L Ecoboost, with tech package, dual moonroof and max towing package. That max towing package is a heck of a deal by the way - you get the 3.55 locking diff, 36-gallon tank, sway bars, and just enough towing capacity that when my dad tells me that I should use his HD Duramax to pull a random loaded trailer, I can politely decline. Probably the thing I most appreciate is that this is the first vehicle since the 1999 GMC that I seem to get advertised mileage out of without having to draft a semi downhill. This was my main consideration when looking at the 3.0 Powerstroke. Maybe there's hope yet.
