Default oil or lack of

Just trying to get a handle on the excessive oil issue with the 2018 F-150 5.0. Just read one post that said the engine took 7.7 qts. best I can make from my owners manual is 8.8. Dealership preformed the first change at 5k. I just did the second at 10k and only drained out 5.5 qts. that includes draining the filter into the container. Dealership has put me on an oil consumption check schedule. They are also telling me that FMC says that a Qt every thousand miles is acceptable for this motor. Really! REALLY! The mechanic standing behind the service manager is shaking his head no!! Is anyone getting any satisfaction from FMC about this issue?

What did the dip stick show right after the oil change at 5K, and right before you drained the oil?

I've got a 2017 with the 5.0 and just did the second oil change at 10,000 miles. Did the first oil change at 5,000 miles also. I check my oil regularly and the oil level on the dipstick did not drop any during the 5,000 mile intervals when I change my oil. On my 2016 5.0 before I traded it off, there was also no oil level drop on the dipstick between changes at 5,000 mile intervals. Just my own opinion but 1 quart of oil usage for each 1,000 miles on new truck is not acceptable and something is definitely wrong with an engine with only 10,000 miles on it.
