just looking
hey peoples, i just recently got a 97 f150 for 1000 bucks, its got 1 month old black paint, black wheels, black tailights, nice stereo, but the motor had a knock and now its locked up, i pulled a plug and it has rust on it so i guess it got water in it somehow, but its a garbage 4.2 and i was trying to find some good info on the 4.6 swap, i havnt really found any solid info, stuff like will the transmission from the 4.2 bolt on to the 4.6, what else would i need, i was thinking probably just the motor wire harness and ecu, but what about the trans, bellhousing, driveshaft, stuff like that, i tried searching but didnt really find all that much which makes me think there is more involved than what i think, can anyone point me in the right direction i dont wanna get halfway into this and realize i need another 2 or 3k to finish. any help would be great, i would love to get this truck on the road

Im not sure if we are going to help someone with a honda avatar...
Just kidding, and Welcome to the site.
NGM should know something, lol, I know nothign about motor swaps, but it should be posiable. If anything, tyr looking for a totaled truck with a running 4.6 so you will have everything needed.

Hey!! NGM thats me... If you are gonna swap in a 4.6 you need the transmission and wiring harness to go with it. If you want to do it easy, a 302 engine and trans combo will drop right in and if you carburate it its an easy swap. You can even use the stock fuel pump with the carburator as long as you get a good fuel pressure regulator. Carb only runs 6 lbs and the fuel pump is capable of 60+ psi. Good luck and welcome to the site.

this was the other route i was thinking, 302 cuz they are easy to find and relatively cheap, i was hoping i wouldnt have to get any other trans tho, transmissions cost more than the damn motor, maybe ill just put a nice 1.6 turbo honda motor in there and my truck will out live anyones ford, no seriously, if i gotta swap the trans, then i might as well go for the 351 then, but earlier this guy offered me a 87 and a 93 both f150's and they both have the 5.4 and they both run and he wants to trade me plus give me some cash on top of that, so i might do that and just end up with 2 ****box's instead of 1
oh and by the way, my avatar, its my wrist, i got em on both, gotta love the honda, thats really what i build is hondas, but ive built some nice stangs, and i had to sell my 86 toyota pick up when i moved to florida from nc so now i need something i can drive over curbs with and my hondas wont make it over a rock in the road

when he said 5.4 im thinking 351's but i dont know if thats stock or what im gonna go check them out tomarro afternoon and see what he's got, i really just need a parts beater but the shell i got is super clean, just needs a motor but i dont think i could handle driving a 6 cylinder truck, the yota was a 4 but at least it was a 4 speed manual and was a tiny little thing too
