Hello all,
Just thought I'd drop by and introduce myself. I just bought my second F-150, a 2016 XLT 4x4 SuperCrew with the 3.5EB, and only 11,500 miles. It was hard to justify looking at a brand new F-150 when I could get the same options for half the price.
Anyhow, I originally had a 2014 FX2 SuperCrew, which I absolutely loved, minus the 2WD part. After leveling that, going up a tire size and upgrading to 10 Plys, I was disappointed with the mileage. When I moved to Nevada from AZ, I realized that I was going to be driving a whole lot more, and would need 4x4 for winters. So.... I bought a 2017 Ford Escape with the 2.0, and regretted it every single day since. My '14 F-150 was an outstanding truck, serving as a dog hauling, city roaming, and trailer dragging champ.
It took me awhile to get used to the redesigned looks, but they've grown on me, and the interior is a huge improvement over the previous generation.
My primary motivation for getting rid of the Escape was the realization that the 2.0 EcoBoost engine really suffers in economy in that car. over 10,000 miles in rural northern Nevada (absolutely no city traffic), I was averaging only 19mpg combined. Highway drives (which I do quite often) would return about 22-23 mpg, far less than I had expected. My first trip to Arizona in the F-150 returned just under 26mpg calculated (average speed of about 70mph), with the return trip bringing in 23.5. In the 4,000 miles I've put on over the last couple months, I think I'm realistically seeing only about 1.5mpg less than what the far smaller Ford Escape was doing, and I'm back into a vehicle that I can actually enjoy.

I've been honestly amazed at the 3.5's economy when you really keep the turbos from spooling up much. I wish the Escape could perform similarly.
I noticed that at roughly 30mph, there is a large difference between the 150 with the 3.5EB and the escape with the 2.0EB. It's tough for me to calculate exact mileage driving at those speeds, as I don't have many residential roads to drive on. But, if the indicated mileage is even close to being correct, the f150 actually beats out the escape at those lower speeds by a few mpg.

So today I had a bit of a surprise. I feel ashamed to say this, but I ordered a SCT tuner last week, and went to setting it up today. During the course of the setup, I was confused why it was identifying my engine as a 2.7L. (I bought my truck used, and didn't really fully look over the window sticker, as it was in the glove box - rookie move, I guess)
All this time I've been simply amazed that this new F150 was such an improvement of my older 3.5 ecoboost in terms of mileage. Now it makes sense why. I tried to be upset for a minute, but then figured, what the hell. I love the truck, and I'll take a couple extra mpg. Since i last posted, I've added a Banks intake, 3.5" cat back, and a couple aesthetic upgrades (tailgate damper, window tint, LED bulbs in the taillights, debadged all stickers), and Stage 3 is working up tunes for it now.
I'm shopping around for a lift and a wheel/tire upgrade, I still haven't quite settled on what combo I want. I'm leaning towards a 4" lift with 35s, which I *think* will still fit in my garage.
oh, and the loop I've been calculating mileage on is a round trip loop from my place to the nearest Wal-Mart. It's about 110 miles total, with an elevation drop of 350' on the way there, and a gain on the way back of the same. I'm somewhat less impressed now that I realize I've got the smaller ecoboost, but still pleased with it
