new to Forum Northwestern Washington
Hi, I just found this forum and I am hoping to learn more about my truck, how to fix it, improve it and generally learn more mechanic stuff. First I have never been much good at mechanic stuff. With the help of a Haynes manual, I have been able to do simple stuff like change a water pump, starter , alternator, radiator, etc. I have replaced shocks, put in new seat belts and repaired a few tractors. I have owned 5 ford trucks all put one was gas. engines were 302, 4.6, 460, and now a 351 W (5.6) My newest truck is a 93 150 supercab. The body is straight, the paint is good and the interior is nice. The bed is sound too. It has a trailer package and 4 x 4. I bought it with about 135K on the odometer. I am up to 147 now. Considering my 4.6 went almost 300K I figured there was still life left in my girl. As I started to use it daily, problems began to surface. Based upon bad advice, i have replaced the engine with a remanufactured 351W "RV". It was done by CHS in Portland OR. It has over sized pistons, HD/RV Cam, HD timing chain and oil pump, ect. I had the engine balanced and blue printed. When I replaced the engine, I installed an ovesized radiator, new water pump, belt tensioner, spertine belt pulley, hoses and belt, etc. New motor mounts too. The exhaust manifold had broken on the right side so I replaced both sides when that was discoverd. The new manifold hs a small leak because of the new mainfold exhaust. I'm going to replace the exhaust piping anyway. The cat is plugged so I'll replace it with an open one since I am not in a county that tests for exhaust emmissions.
I am looking into a new hip or ? to help improve the mpg. I need low end torque and milage. I guess I should have looked for a straight six. I didn't know enough then. I have learned that most sixes were considered "economy engines" and most trucks seem old, worn out and beat up.
