Need advice on what i should do about my f-150
I took my ford to the dealership to have the cam phasers fixed. They called later in the day and said the lobes were scarred and they were hearing a loud noise in the lower engine. They said they didn't recommend repairing it due to the amount of lower engine noise. They said to just drive it till it quits!!! It runs fine, but idles rough. I was quoted 5 thousand for a used motor with 90 thousand miles and a 90 day warranty.

Sherry, I had a PowerTrain remanufactured 5.4 engine installed in my 2005. This is now a zero-miles engine with a 3 year warranty. Procured and installed by a trustworthy local independent mechanic. Runs fine for the last 7000 miles so far. Cost was $5200 for engine and installation. I would advise against spending similar for a 100k used engine with a lousy warranty.
All that said, if replacing the truck is on your radar, look into other manufacturers. This is my first and last Ford. They are not what they used to be. |
Welcome to the F-150 forum! Glad to have you join us.

Over time as these engines wear they develop a knocking noise in the front timing chain area of the engine. This is commonly caused by the cam phaser moving back and forth uncontrollable which in addition to all the noise will also send error codes to the computer and send the engine into the 'limp' mode. An engine in the 'limp' mode will run very poorly with symptoms like low power, poor mileage, rough idle etc. This permanent repair kit will change the phaser to a solid hub design and install a new tune into the vehicles computer to get it out of the 'limp' mode and return it to normal operations. Simple in design, requiring no special tools and it includes our timing chain wedge tool which makes it even easier saving you hours of time. https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.f15...0a8abf9056.jpg |
