I drive a tractor trailer for Conway Freight. Needless to say we deliver freight to all types of places. Today I delivered to a Ford dealer and got to talk with several of the Mechanics while they unloaded my trailer. They had notthing but good things to say about the F150. They also said if I tow a trailer once in a while like I do and plow snow I should get the 5.4. I never checked the milage I get with the 5.7 (350) Chevy but it goes 425 miles on a tank before I get concerned and that's with a 25 gallon tank. The Ford's 5.4 must be a 327 or close to it with a similar size tank? So I probably wouldn't notice any change...

No Pain, No Pain!
The 5.4 is something like a 330ci, 327 is close enough.
And there are many F150's with dual tanks that get you closer to 40 gallons total. And I have seen the newer F150's that have a 38 gallon tank option, so you should be able to find something with a good sized gas tank.

My 95 F150 Flareside extended cab short wheel base, 302 V8, with the 4 speed C6 is equipped with the standard pair of 18 gallon tanks. On a recent trip from Cheyenne, Wyoming to Florence, Colorado a 420 mile round trip. I managed just short of 15 mpg. this despite fighting high winds blowing upwards of 65 mph going down and back. I think this is excellent for such a vehical in such atrocious conditions.

Happy holidays to all!
I've been a Chevy man all my life that is till the new Chevy's were introduced recently. I don't know what GM was thinking but they are in my opinion ugly on wheels!
I'm joining up with the Ford team to learn about the F150 trucks. I'm going to be in the market for a new truck in the spring and think the Ford is a nice looking truck. So I'm going to cross over to Ford and try one. All the info I can get will be helpful with my purchase.
Thanks in advance for the help!

Before the Wife and I decided on the '07 Lariat SuperCrew, we had looked at the new Chevy's and had a great laugh! Those are the most gawd awful looking trucks. I guess they are taking the hints from the big boys and trying to make their trucks more 'manly' with BIG grills and obvious fender flares. I thought it was just us that thought Chevy was ugly, I am glad I have company.

I have sure learned in the weeks I have had the 95 Flareside F150 why this truck is the number one such vehical in the United States. I am sold, and this is coming from a died in the wool GM man.

I have an 07' Xcab (SCAB) FX4, w/ 5.4 and a 37gal tank (say's the window sticker). MPG's are the same as my 04' Xcab Z71. Power band is different, but I like the F150 top to bottom better then the Z71 (except the fuel door).
Wife says it's easier to move in and out of tight spaces. I have noticed a tighter turning radius and have a better sense of the front two corners then the Cheby.
Unless your going to have a 40 mile+ commute, and haul potting soil and flowers, I would recommend the 5.4.

I would like to know what changed you over to Ford? the place of business next to ours is chock full of Chevy trucks all decked out redneck style. We have a couple of guys here that have Lariats and you can't tell them Chevy guys anything. Give me some ammunition that only Chevy guys know. It is hard talking to them as they are spittin out chew and you don't know where the spray is going.

2. The "tiny, or tinnie" interior. It's plastic that all year long acts like its cold plastic. Rattles, creaks, and all the curves are hard to get dust out of. Like around the radio and HVAC controls. Every time I wiped the dash, I felt like I would scratch it, due to the plastic finish.
3. Interior fit and finish. First month I had it, the passenger side A-post trim piece needed replaced. It was laying on the floor. They replaced both, complimentory. Head liner never did get pushed inside the trim piece over the drivers door. Mentioned that 3 times.
Center console- had a 1in divit in the middle. But just collected clutter. (personal opinion) Plastic did scratch on this.
4.Suicide doors, I could shut and they would shut just hard enough to latch, but wouldnt be snug/tight. But the front door would still close against it... More rattling. You'd have to "slam" it to ensure.
One of the first things I check with the Ford suicide doors, not a hint of similiar behavior. If you close it and can't open it, its shut tight, not half way.
Also, suicide doors, the weather stiping between it and the main door - the bottom 3/4 would dangle. Like it was missing adhesive or wasn't secured.
Tires, would squeel at low speeds, at less than tight turns. (Not Chevy's fault completely, but I did rotate my tires).
Tailgate, alot heavier to close then the F150.
Daytime Lights, vibration most passenger side go out early, mine did.
5. Vibration in the steering column. Felt like the steering wheel would move up & down on the shaft. Never took it in to look at, just traded at that point.
6. Front two corners where hard to ever get a depth on, for tight corners. I driven big trucks and understand learning the turn in and turn out of a vehicles apex.... I really tried to "learn" the front corners.
7. Ford Mirrors are alot better placed & shaped. (personal opinion)
Hmmm.... The Bose sound system was very good for stock. I liked the fuel door, & trim piece on the end of the tailgate on the Cheby..
I work with a "bunch" of Cheby guys, they all think I'm wack. But I just tell them, I've owned both, have you? I really didn't want to trade, the money wasn't burning a hole in my pocket. But I am very glad I did.

P.S.- Am I a readneck? I Chew Skoal and have a red hound dog?
