mine sounds just like andrei-x's. I have 9200 miles 90% on the highway and its noiser the ANY new ford diesel.I guarentee it's no exhaust leak on mine. When i had he first oil change i said something about it and was told "normal"... i'm going in for another oil change at 10K and will say it again hand have them write it on the work sheet. If they say normal we are going out to the new car sales and starting every 5.0 on the dealership lot. I will continue until 60K if needed writing it down. you can't convince me that every 5.0 Mustang sound like this; if it did you could sell them. I have no tuner or anything else.. We shall see; this is my 4th new Ford pickup since 1996.

1800 miles on my 2018 with 5.0 and same diesel clatter at idle. I'm pretty sure it's related to the direct injection. Definitely nothing loose or broken type noise. only been working on cars for 45 years, so still clueless.

I’ve had this same noise issue, sounding like a diesel. Drives me nuts. I was told by the service at the dealership that this noise was coming from the transmission. Apparently it’s air trapped or something and they’ve had several complaints.

Default 5.0 diesel tick

I have a 2018 with the 5.0, mine staryed the tick at idle after a few hundred miles. I now have 28k on it and it stays the same. The dealer can't say what it is but claims it is normal. Every now and then it will quiet down and not tick, but that has only just started that within the last few days. Getting real tired of people asking me if its a diesel though, that tick is making me nuts! I think it has to do with the cam phasers (they don't call them that anymore, but thats what they are) becasuse if you get on the throttle and let off quick, it will rattle on the top end in the valve covers. You can also duplicate it by lightly burping the throttle while parked. Makes a hell of a rattle when you let off. They claim that is normal too! I have been a true blue Ford man my whole life, this one is really irritating me and making think I shoud have bought a diesel. At least it would have a reason for the tick.....

I have noticed this noise in my new 2018 Lariat, right after getting the truck. I really hear it at a drive-up window where the sound bounces off the building. Definitely more noisy than my 12 year old 5.4 engine, which was notorious for cam phaser noise (which I never experienced). I did experience the very common, passenger-side, broken exhaust manifold noise with the 5.4, to the tune of $1200 to repair. This new 5.0 sound is similar to the exhaust leak sound as well.

Default ticking 5.0 2018 F150

Well mine is doing it also,at 9000 km. Dealer tech says normal. Not acceptable on a new truck. Sound to me like a stuck lifter.

Crap!
