Early 90s or late 90s Clueless

My name is Paul and I live in Kansas and I'm looking for an F150 preferably 4x4, extended cab and V8. I'm into the 90's series. I've had in the past an F150, 2wd, extended cab, V8 Triton. I had to get rid of due to financial reasons. Now that that's not an issue, I'm looking for another F150. I've found a 97, 4x4, 4.6 L V8 extended cab for $4k with 121k miles and a 96, V8 unknown Liter, 4x4, extended cab for $3500. Im open to any 90s series just want to make sure I'm steering myself in the right direct. I like the old school look and also the aerodynamic look. I've heard things about 4.6 L that is less powerful than the 5.4 but can mod to be just as good and I've heard the 5.4L pulls its weight with the 5,500 lbs the F150 has and you'll wish you went bigger. I've heard there was some problems with the 5.4L but was worked out in later 90's. Any help would be awesome. Snows a lot where I'm at.
