Default Long-time owner, First(ish)-time home mechanic

I bought my 2002 Supercrew FX4 new and have loved it. My original plan was to upgrade at 10 yrs but I'm not a fan of the price tag for the new trucks, and I like not having a car payment for the last 12 years. So, now its taking more work to keep it on the road.

I recently had to replace the brakes and when I asked an acquaintance if he could direct me to someone to do the work, he looked at me like I'd asked him to point out someone who could top off my windshield fluid. After assuring me that it isn't that hard, I did what every do-it-yourselfer does in 2017; I went to youtube.

I replaced brake pads and rotors for all four wheels...and found my Stabilizer Bar Links were broken. The next week I replaced the end links.

On a road trip over the holidays, my truck was vibrating and the garage told me I needed to replace the passenger side hub, upper control arm, and lower ball joint. Again, going to youtube to see how to replace these things, I bought the parts for both sides, drove home, and replaced on all sides.

Taking the truck in for an after-work alignment, I was told the idler arm was bad too. It was easy to see the transmission cooler line was leaking while looking at the idler arm and now both are on my list. While down there I plan to replace the Sway Bar Bushings.

So, I'm considering other things but I'll save them for other threads.

From this distance you can't see all the paint imperfections that 15.5 yrs of use will give you. Now that I'm thinking of keeping it 'till the wheels fall off, I might get prices to fill all the deep chips and scratches and restore the clear coat.

Had an 02 several years ago. Loved it. Super nice truck. My buddy owns it now and had probably put on another 120k Miles with no problems. I’ve owned a few Fords in recent years and have come to enjoy them all.
Welcome aboard.
