Talking Hi from a virgin truck owner

Hi,

My name is Jennifer and on Saturday I bought my first truck! It's a 2017 F-150 XLT 3.5L V6 with ecoboost, FX4 with all the special towing features. I'm still giddy about the whole thing (I've been spending time gazing lovingly upon my new baby).

This truck was primarily purchased for camping. We go to a lot of music festivals and had outgrown the SUV we were using. We've been researching the best camping rigs for families for a long time (debating between an RV, a van, and a truck/trailer) and chose to go with a truck and camping trailer. We figured the truck would run better, be more versatile, and enable us to tow lots of fun toys. We're borrowing a pop-up camping trailer next month to see how we like it.

Now we need a camper shell. Any advice?

I also need to take a class in how to tow safely. Thoughts?

We live in Berkeley, California. No, we're not the only truck owners in Berkeley!

I ordered a snugtop rebel yesterday. We're almost ready for our first camping trip!

I'm still looking for help with learning to tow safely. Everyone I ask about this acts like people are born knowing how to tow and why would I need help with something so easy? But I've never done it before and don't want to risk jack knifing as part of my trial by fire. Any suggestions?

I recommend towing mirrors on your tow rig. Good luck and have fun.

Have someone tow a trailer out to a wide open area and practice, its how everyone learns to do it. Practice cornering, backing, hitching, unhitching, and roadside emergencies. Also read up on weight distribution and pulling a trailer in general online.
