Hello from Texas!
Hello, my name is Mark. I'm from NE Texas, near the Longview/Tyler area. I have questions that I'd like to have answered so I joined the forum. I have a company truck that I drive back and forth to work about 30 miles each way. It is a 2013 F150 XLT Crew Cab with a 5.0L motor. I am happy as heck with it, and would like to buy one for my personal use, although I use my company truck for personal use regularly. I am getting close to retiring, and expect to retire in a couple of years. This particular truck has more miles on it than any vehicle I've ever owned. It has well over 313K miles already, and still runs and drives like a brand new truck. I haven't had any major issues with it at all. The oil I've ran in it is 5W-20 full synthetic, has been changed regularly at 7500 miles since new, and I've wondered if it is wise to continue to use this particular oil since I live in a hot and humid environment and the truck has such high mileage. Any thoughts?
Have an oil analysis ran from Blackstone or other 3rd party, they usually give recommendations. Some bump to a 5W30 as they say it quiets the "5.0 tick". Consistent/routine oil changes like you've done with quality oil and filter is going to be paramount over the change in weight IMO.
I'm in DFW and run the same 5W20 but semi-synthetic motorcraft. 165k trouble free miles.

Thank you. I've always heard that higher mileage vehicles need a thicker oil, especially in hot climates, but the 5W-20 has obviously worked very well on this truck. I haven't noticed the "5.0 tick", so I guess it is working as it's supposed to. The truck has been just a commuter, not much of a "work" truck. I do drive fast, though.
