I am not currently an F150 owner, but considering buying a used one to tow our travel trailer.

Well, you definitely picked the right place. The subsections for each year group are typically pretty responsive for newb questions. If you find one you like, find the year group sub forum and post what you know about it (year / trim / engine size / any modifications / service history / 2wd|4wd / ...). The folks in the subforums generally collectively know everything there is to know about their trucks and can tell you what to look for, watch out for, and definitely stay away from.
