Hello .....Feedback is appreciated
Hi all .... just registered here.... I will need to replace my poor old 2002 Ex Sprt trac - have had several different flavors of vehicles over the years, but my pickups have all been Fords. My brother has had all domestics, my dad all Chevy,
Im not here to talk smack about other brands, and will avoid conversations that do so blindly. My needs are :
We do NOT tow anything heavy....
We DO haul firewood (main source of heat here in Western NC)
We DO live in the mountains. (North and east of Asheville)
The rig I will be using will get mostly hi way miles w/o any load.
I keep my vehicles for a L O N G time (example sport trac is almost 20 years) ..... (so...... NO Turbo..... unless you can guarantee they will be problem free for the next 20 years.....and nobody can do that.....)
Would love to get new, but my budget does not allow
I like some creature comforts, but the new go out cutting firewood, I don't want to have to take a shower and change clothes each time I get in the thing.....
So, after some due diligence..... 5.0 Coyote....6 speed XL or XLT 6.5 foot box crew cab. 2015 - 2017 or so .... ( Carpet floor will more than likely be a negative)
Any suggestions ?
I have had a 4.0 giving 210 horsepower 240 ft lb torque for about 20 years..... will the 3.3 suffice? I understand the Coyote will have more oomph....
10 speed tranny - lots of complaints vs the 6 speed...... have they improved the 10 yet ?
I prefer tried and true vs 'new and improved'
For the life of me I LOVE the look of Ford Super Duty, but gas mileage will be a factor. I will be using the vehicle for 250-350 miles a week for 95% hi way miles without a load.
Length of vehicle doesn't matter... my garage will handle crew with 8 foot box.
Any helpful feedback would be appreciated
ALL my vehicles are maintained religiously, oil changes are N E V E R neglected.....just FYI, and no, I don't abuse any vehicle, but yes, I will tow tree trunks in 4wd LO using tow straps. I wish I had a nickel for every load of firewood that poor sport trac has hauled - - - LOTS of nickels.... with 4.5 ft box.... 6.5 would be great, 5.5 would be an improvement ...I have load handler shocks on the ST, use a jack under the tow receptacle when parking with over load of firewood in winter, can see using Timbrens .... open to suggestion if you have modded your F150 for payload ...like to hear from ya
anyone with 3.3 .....
good success with 10 speed ?
Anyway.... hello everyone

I had 3 5.0 trucks(2014,16,2021) they were all great trucks with plenty of power and reliable. 2 had the 6 speed and one had the 10. The 5.0 with the 10 speed was night and day different.

I honestly wouldn't shy away from a 2.7. Turbo technology has greatly improved over the last 20 years.
The 2.7 has v8 power but v6 fuel mileage if driven respectfully.
Just something to consider.
