Hi all. Just joined so looking forward to learn heaps. Badically we are coming to North America later this year and are looking to buy a vehicle to fit out for touring . Idea is to buy it and store it somewhere and yearly for say the next 5 years fly over for 3 to 4 months and get amongst your countries by touring around Overland style. Friends in Canada suggested the Ford F 150 would make a great platform as its similar to one of our touring vehicles in Oz. So if there is any sites or threads anyone can recommend I start reading that would be awesome. Looking to the 2nd market first and idea might be to add a slide on camper to start with. So any help to learn about models, years of manf to avoid, price Guide etc that would be most welcome. cheers for now Grant from Oz. |

Not to rain on your parade, but leaving a truck to sit for 8+ months can be troublesome. Do you have a plan for maintaining it while you're away?

Thanks for your reply, and the heads up about storage. Yes i know what you mean as we are cirrently storing a couple cars In OZ for visitors who come every 2nd year to explore OZ. I have no real plans in place or even a possible location locked away, and as to the requests i will have if they can even do it. So Yeah it has its problems. Budget damm good question:- If i reverse engineer it, the alternative is to Hire vehicles and campers so its that cost Vs buy secondhand , buy a camper fit it all out and store it for 8 months plus servicing and running costs, tools etc. Buy cheap and i buy problems, buy top end and there is no saving benefit. So i am trying to understand what Year Model etc goes for what. If i said 10K to 20K Aussie for a vehicle what would that buy a F150 for model year etc. I have started looking at auction sites but a lot dont seem to have price points. I have also read somewhere that 2010 to 2016 F150 have engine and trans problems so stay away. So i am in early stages of research and hope to be talking to owners who can give their thoughts and opinions. Ok thanks again for your reply. Cheers Grant. |

Cheers Grant. 2009 and 2015 was the first year of the next gen. Always working out kinks. 2010 had some iffy engine choices and you can't use ForScan to add things like remote start. You could also look at older models, but it would be difficult to find something with lower miles and no issues. 2016+ would be above the $20k USD range, but also a decent choice if you wanted to spend the money. |
