Default First time truck owner!

Hi all!

Just wanted to introduce myself as a new user to the forum. I have recently purchased a 2011 F-150 FX4 SuperCab with a 5.0L V8. This is the first truck that I've owned and I am in love with it (even with all the issues its had already.) I am hoping to start adding some modifications to it starting next spring, so any advice is more that appreciated!

I've had quite the experience with this truck already, and not a very good one at that. The day after I took it home from the dealership, this grinding noise started coming from the front hubs. After some back and forth with the dealership, they finally agreed to take it back in and had a Ford dealership take a look at it. Turns out the IWE's were broken internally. Ended up having both sides replaced on the dealership's dime. A month after, got hit with a rock and received a nice crack across my windshield. No big deal, insurance covered it and I got it replaced quickly. Now the latest issue is this: when going on longer drives (30+ miles), my gas gauge will begin to run down to empty, even if I begin my trip with 3/4th of a tank or more. If I stop and push on the inlet for fuel, a bunch of air gets sucked in. Afterwards, the gas gauge will return to normal. Another issue is sometimes after refueling, the truck fails to start on the first turnover. From what I've read these two issues can be related. These two posts explain almost word for word what I am experiencing: https://www.fordf150.net/forums/viewtopic.php?t=117118 & https://community.cartalk.com/t/ford...with-gas/79526 ... I plan on getting that looked at soon, but any advice towards those symptoms are more than welcome.

Regardless of these issues, I am enjoying the truck. I've never really worked on a vehicle before so my mechanical knowledge is slim, but I'd like to learn all I can. I'm not really sure where to start as far as mods go, and since this truck is my daily driver, I don't want to go too over the top. But I'd like to be able to have some fun with it off-road, and I see myself pulling a camper in the future. So I will look forward to your recommendations and discussing them with you all!

Here are a few pics that I've taken so far:

Took it out on some dirt roads after a rain.

After an afternoon of playing in the dirt.

Thanks!

- Tyler

Same syptoms as my last work van had. Chevy with the 6.0. The needle wouldn't drop but it wouldn't start on the first crank after filling up and there was negative pressure in the tank. It ended up being the evap thing when I took it in. I can look for the receipt and see what labor was.

Thanks for the welcome! bachman44 from what I've been able to find it looks like the EVAP purge valve is the likely culprit.
