Default Finally....

Once upon a time, 25 years ago to be precise, I drove a new Ford Ranger... my life has taken me around the world, but now I live back in the Detroit area, 5 houses away from Detroit to be precise, and I can finally buy myself an F150.

i ordered it to be exactly what I wanted, build week is the first week of September and I’ve been hunting through the web looking for F150 content and landed here... I thought I’d stick around a bit so I created a profile.

I ordered an 18 XLT, 2.7L, 4x4 in Leadfoot gray!

i didn’t need the full capabilities of the 3.5, or skid plates fx4, so I went with the 2.7L 4x4 for the winters and occasional 2-tracks during hunting season or camping, and better fuel economy as this will be replacing a ‘14 Escape.

Since my trade in is worth more that I expected, my wife allowed me to upgrade a few options.
302A
Special Edition (getting the decal delete)
Twin Panel moonroof (she wanted this, I’ll be too busy driving to enjoy it)
Towing Package
BLIS
Power Eqp package
side bed steps
tsilgate step
spray in bed liner
hard top tonneau
36gal tank for practicality in ithe winter

I’ve enjoyed checking out all the custom builds and I’ve been contemplating a few basic after market parts, but nothing too significant. I look forward to learning from all of you.

Coming soon to a driveway near me!

  1. Perhaps smoked tail lights and third brake light
  2. LED fog lights
  3. Maybe some additional LED lights in the lower front bumper (for hunting season), nothing that stands out
  4. New antenna: need to read some reviews, I won’t pay for XM/Sirius radio.
  5. Im dreaming about a 2” coilover lift kit so I can lift 2” for 2-tracks/hunting season, and “lower” to normal for daily driving.
  6. Contemplating some engine upgrades but need to read reviews: cold air intake with larger air filter, new overflow radiator tank, new Intercooler, turbo blankets.. nothing major, but apparently keeping it cool can help improve fuel efficiency? I’m open to feedback on any of these
  7. dreaming about new LED headlights, black or smoked, but I don’t have the scratch for that anytime soon

I replaced the low beams in mine with Diode Dynamics SL1s. Huge improvement over stock and pretty reasonably priced.
They'll look good in the SE housings, too.

Welcome to the F-150 forum! Glad to have you join us.

Have any fun performance modifications planned for the truck?

I appreciate the warm welcome.

Performance? No... a 3.5L was only $1700 more or so and I chose the 2.7.

After years of working on the houses ive owned, I’m in my 3rd house now and I’m sick of borrowing a truck to get supplies for projects (wood, tool rentals, landscaping, etc).

As far as MPG upgrades, I’ve been reading a lot and I’m not entirely sure which I would prefer, if at all.

My concern isn’t the upfront cost, or recouping the cost, but daily driver fuel efficiency and budgeting for fuel each month.

I might do some exterior updates, it’s why I went with the Special Edition package. Some addition lights: maybe custom DRLs, some additional wide throw fog lights, maybe a custom badge.

But nothing that is super obvious.. I like understated elegance... I hate chrome, I don’t want new aggressive bumpers, brush guards, any exterior lighting that would disturb the profile...
