Question 4wheel drive problem

Well first time posting so bare with me.. I have a 1997 f150 4x4. I was wondering if any body could help me out.. Every time I put the truck in 4wheel drive I have a popping sound coming from the front of the truck. This only happens when its in 4wheel drive. Runs smooth and fine in 2wheel drive. I was thinking U-Joints but it seems like its to loud of a popping sound for that. There is no play in the U-Joints but maybe that doesn't mean anything. I have never changed them and I have had the truck for almost 4years. So does any body have any thoughts on this??? I'd sure appreciate any help.. Thanks

It definatly gets loader as I go faster. 4wheel drive still works just afraid to use it. Don't wanna break something that maybe costly. Yeah its auto switch on dash for 4wheel drive. It's slick as crap here and it be nice to run 4wheel sometimes!!

Popping sound? Sounds like it may be a cv joint?

I've replaced both. passenger side like a month ago and drivers side yesterday. Also changed out u-joints in front drive shaft yesterday. If you lay on ground when the truck moves the transfer case jumps a little. My thinking thats what the problem is. Don't know how it just went bad cause i never use 4wheel drive. Worked good last winter but something happened during summer to it.....??? Don't know how if I never used 4wheel drive....

Post this in the 97-03 section and you'll get more responses.. I'm not sure what the problem is if it's the t-case..
