Default 2005 4.6L Rough idle and starter problems

Greetings,

Here is what I am trying to figure out... I have been checking out the different threads, trying to find some solid info. I just bought a 2005 F150 4.6L, 45,000mi. A few days after I purchased the truck, while the truck was on sitting in park, I noticed it start idling rough. It didn't stall, but it was sounding a little choppy. When it is idling rough, if I give it some gas it smooths out, let off gas... chop again. It doesn't matter if I have been driving for minutes or hours, it consistently idles rough. It has no problems when I feed it gas, accelerates smooth. Another issue with the truck, hopefully related to the idling issue. The truck gives me a little bit of an issue every 15 cranks or so. Typically starts right up, but sometimes, I go to turn it over and it dies (starts to turn over and just quits). But it will start right up the next try. From checking out F150forum threads I was thinking about looking into maybe PCMreflash or IACvalve. Anybody with similar issue? Maybe resolved. I appreciate any help.

Cheers!

I would try cleaning the throttle body and MAF first...

I finally had a chance to work on the problem and it almost completely resolved. The throttle body was not horrible, but there was a decent amount of build up. Once I got to the MAF, that must have been the ticket... because cleaning it made a huge change. This was a fairly inexpensive way to take care of the idle problem. Thanks again for the help! And I hope this helps with your issue.
