Default Your Wash & Detailing Process

I've never been a huge car wash guy. I usually just get the generic car wash jug from Walmart, a sponge, and a bucket, and go to town a few times a year. But now that I got a new truck I want to keep it looking nice. Reading through this forum is like a second language to me. Bug & Tar removers, Washing, Clay Bars, detailing, polishing, waxing, etc...

So what's your process? What's your go to product for each? What's your frequency?

I usually wash my vehicles with plain 'ol water and a soft wash mitt, dry with a towel or shammy. I do keep 'em waxed, which is why I use just water to wash. I will use Joy or Dawn on the tires and wheels, and for any tar that does not come off with the water. I try and wax 'em 2x/yr. Never been a fan of the wash n wax combo in the jug but have never tried it either. If you use a good wax, it will last 6months or so, and the vehicle will be much easier to wash and keep clean.

Chemical guys products all the way for me (with some exceptions as I dont like EVERYTHING they sell), wash at least once a week, spray wax maybe once a month. I just picked up a sealant so i'm going to strip all of the wax off of the truck and do this specific order: Wash & dry, clay bar (have some rail rust) on paint, glass and lights> Swirl remover with polisher>Glaze with polisher> Jet seal by hand (paint, glass and lights)> Wax with polisher> sealant spray by hand. Wont need to wax for another year and it will reflect like a mirror and dirt will come right off with water.
