How do you guys wax your truck? do you do it by hand or machine? I just did buy a buffer from walmart it is just one that you plug in

You got a low speed variable buffer correct? A grinder with a buffing wheel on it will burn through your paint.

i apply by hand then use the buffer to remove it

I got a fancy dan DA machine. It saves about an hour per coat on the wax application. It was much easier to remove by hand, though. The machine applied the wax/sealer much better than I could. On the downside, it used quite a bit of wax. Partly that's because I kept slathering the pad with it. Probably it won't be so bad as I get better at it, but still, probably pretty bad. Got complimented on my car by someone I barely knew at work, like I was driving some kind of tricked out model instead of my plain vanilla XL.

Guys, Merlin is the Guru of detailing, I've read some of his posts on cleaning/waxing, etc. and he does it right.

Sadly, I hate to tell you this but the second one is not much good for anything.
I have seen it ruin more paint that it has ever helped make any better.
You are better off doing it by hand than you are using that machine.
Short Version: Don't use it. Take it back.

Dual Action (DA) polishers Porter Cable 7424xp, Meguiars G110v2 and the Griot's Garage 6" are all good.

Now for your question...depending on the wax or sealant I prefer to apply it and remove it by hand.
In some cases (depending on product) I prefer using a DA. I can apply nice thin even layers.

What Last Step Product (LSP) sealant or wax are you using?
