This is true and while I have not tried them all, Collinite 845 has been considered the all around best which is the one I was using. Is there a better one? I don't know. I've found something that has me not wanting to do anymore experimenting. A rarity in my book.

is claying your vehicle a must before adding a coat of this stuff? I have a black '13 STX with some minor paint swirls and some minor lines from driving through tight trails, looking for something to keep it shiny and keep the bugs from sticking

Claying 1st is always a good idea before waxing/sealing. There are contaminants on your paint now, you'd just be sealing them in with any product you use.

Get one of the clay mitts. Use a heavy concentration of Dawn dishwashing detergent in your bucket and wash the car with the mitt. Really not much different than using a wash mitt or sponge. You'll instantly feel/notice the difference feeling your paint.

Then use this product. Take your time as the longer it sits the better. In fact you coat the entire truck before you go back and wipe it off. If you use it, post your results.

Also, it will not remove the swirls. You need to use something like this:
Amazon Amazon
after claying and before wax/sealing.

I agree with 90% of what you say above, BUT do NOT clay your vehicle without washing it first. Dont try to mix both into one step, yes the clay picks up containment but it should only be applied to a clean surface. Even more so when he is asking about a black vehicle, wash and dry then clay.

I guess I assumed a person would wash a vehicle first before doing anything else. But you are indeed correct. Always wash the vehicle before doing anything else.

Just the way it read I thought you were saying to use the clay mit as the wash mit haha
