Mothers Chrome polish, also try using a soft brillo pad "try using it in a small test area" great stuff, I use on my chrome rims

I know this is late ,but you can use a product called "Neverdull" its great for getting off surface rust and scuffs plus polishes it.
I was introduced to it while in the USAF , We used it on the Jets to "Clean and Polish" the stainless steel and chrome on the Jets.

Thats what is use on my running boards.

I used to polish metal for a living. The best thing to use is a sold stick polish called Chrome rouge compound. Green is the proper color/grit formulation to use. Rouge bars are cheap last a long time, and they can't dry out or get spilled. There are a host of grit compounds formulated to polish everything on you truck from the plastic head light lenses, to your aluminum wheels. Go to the link below they have what I am talking about.

i know the older headlights get foggy due to heat from bulbs on the inside and then debris from road on the outside. Bartenders friend will clean those up also, meguars makes a product also for that and then comet and small ice pieces on the inside will clean it up...
