I went with the gold. I figured if I was going to do it go all in.

I had him do a full paint correction before hand. I picked the truck up 3 hours after it was delivered and told them don't wash the truck. It was crazy how messed up the paint got in transit.

Yea I have seen a few recently after being delivered. All that rail dust covers them. How long did you leave the truck to get done and how many bones did it cost, if you dont mind saying

I left it for 5 days, all in it was right about $3000, he gave me a hand full of gift certificates for free hand washes also.

12 hours after picking up my 2018 Platinum White Platinum from the dealer I dropped it off to get paint correction and Modesta BC-05 applied. That was about two months ago.

The dealership I bought my truck from has all the trucks done in Opti coat (I believe that's the right brand, Ill double check the window sticker later). Anyways the only problem I have with it is, I don't think they do any paint correction before applying. It looks shiny but you can see the paint swirls so it ruins the effect for me.

1) I have been doing CQuartz ceramic coatings for many years. I have always used the professional CQuartz products not the consumer versions.
I started with CQuartz Finest when it first came to market. Now Carpro has CQuartz Professional and CQuartz Finest Reserve.
There is a lot of misinformation about "coating of the week" from "Snake Oil" salesmen. I hear stories that make me start to twitch...

2) $tealerships do not know how, and I would not let even them try, to polish paint. Their idea of a detailed car is a clean car. They do NOT care about swirls, holograms etc.
They have one goal and that is to sell you a vehicle. Again , they do not care. My wife saw swirls (She doesn't know a swirl from a squirrel) on a brand new car she wanted to buy.
The salesman said "I don't care do you want to buy the car or not?" It is truly sad with the price of vehicles the quality of the paint finish from OEM/$tealerships these days.
Yes, I have spent over 40 hours doing paint correction on a brand new black truck that was brought to me with less than 35 miles on it.
When it left it looked (actually even better) like what a "showroom new" vehicle should look like.

Think of it like an existing wood floor.
It's lightly sanded to remove scratches from wear. (compound stage)
It's polished to bring out the clarity, color and gloss. (Polishing stage)
After the correction work is done, it is sealed to protect the wood.
The better the sealer the better to "look", longevity and durability.

Short Version: Waxes last weeks, Sealants last months, ceramic coatings last years.
If you seal your paint without polishing it first you will have sealed in very shiny swirls.
Polishing is where the time is. To polish a vehicle correctly for me it usually starts at 20+ hours.

PS - Never ever let a dealership wash your vehicle. Ask me why?

I get all that, unfortunately the dealer dose it as soon as they get the vehicles ( I guess it is an added benefit, so they think.) Now I have to admit I never applied a ceramic coating myself so not fully sure what it entails. However I do have the equipment to do paint corrections and good wax jobs. After my move I'm gonna attack the truck. One rooky question, what's the best way to remove the current coating? would it be the same as a wax?

As for the quality of the paint from the assembly line, I wouldn't expect anything less from a mass produced robot painted vehicle.

Thanks for your info, and man dose that black shine.

What equipment do you have? Do you have a DA?

A coating needs to be polished to be removed.
