Default It was an Optimum weekend

After getting a 2017 blue jeans Lariat this fall, I finally found time to do a little detailing. Blue jeans REALLY pops when the paint is pristine and has a good sealant.

I started with Dawn and a little ONR to wash away the dirt and whatever wax the previous owner used. Next up- Pinnacle clay bar and Mothers Speed Clay 2.0. I was going to spray it down with Iron X but for time's sake decided skip it.

For minor paint correction I used my Griots orbital polisher, a Lake Country orange Smart Pad and Optimum Hyper Polish. As advertised, it buffed out the light swirl marks and finished down to a nice gloss. Following that everything got a wipe down with Optimum Paint Prep.

Now for coatings! I’ve never used a ceramic coating before but Optimum Gloss Coat seemed to be easy enough. It was very easy on and off. I love that it doesn’t leave white residue on the trim. An hour or two after Gloss Coat I added a layer of Optimum Opti-Seal.

For the tires I decide to try Optimum Opti-Bond Tire Gel. I’d say it was OK but nothing special. I might give it another try but I’m also considering trying McKees 37 Tire Coating Kit.

I also put put a little Adams VRT on the trim & tonneau cover. It looks great but I’m not sure I want my truck to smell like cinnamon potpourri. Opti-Seal is supposed to be good for everything except rubber and a bottle covers a LOT of ground - maybe I’ll go with that next time.

I’m just an novice detailer but I do enjoy chasing that perfectly glossy, deep liquid finish.

Looks great.. I am a fan of Optimum & Adams products. Don't know much about the Gloss Coat... whats the life expectancy for that one?

Supposedly it lasts for 2 years. I'm not expecting much more than a year but we will see.

Looks good. My last truck was Blue Jean Metallic. That color looks great with chrome accents and when it's polished up it really pops. The McKee's tire coat works really well as long as you don't have Michelins. Make sure you follow the directions, and use their tire and rubber rejuvinator to prep the tires for best results. It held up real well on my last set of tires. I haven't gotten around to doing the new ones.

The McKees plastic trim restorer is a great coating for the plastic on the mirrors and elsewhere. Ford trim is tricky, the stuff keeps it black, and water will bead up like it does on your paint.

Looks great! I am going a little different route. Dawn to strip old wax, nanoskin mitt with Chem guys luber, Klasse all in one, followed by Carguys Ultimate wax. Same thing for my Flex, but Collinite 845 in place of the Carguys, more for a comparison. Should look good while being budget friendly.

I hear great things about Collonite 845 but I’ve never tried it.

I got some Meguiars new hybrid ceramic to try on my wife's Pacifica. Should be quicker to apply anyway. I’m also going to try McKee’s 37 tire coating kit on my BFGs.
