Hand Washing/Drying With Hard Water and Hot and Dry Climate
I recently moved from Houston (Katy) to Midland Texas. I always hand wash and dry my vehicles. Not so bad in houston as the water isn’t too hard and it’s so humid it usually evaporates slower so I have time to chamois dry. But in Midland, the water is really hard and it’s so hot and dry that’s it’s impossible to dry with a chamois or towel before the water evaporates on the paint/windows leaving terrible hard water spots. Washing it early in the morning helps but it’s still a challenge.
I have ave a water softener for the house but I don’t think it supplies the outdoor spigots. I may be able to add a spigot in the garage downstream of the softener. Will that help/fix?
For my motorcycle, back in houston, I usually use my leaf blower to blast off the water, thinking I may try that before final hand drying. Haven’t got my household goods shipment yet though.
Any other suggestions?

I've got hard water too, not as dry as you guys down there though. I've been using Meguiars hybrid ceramic, or Beadmaker the last few washes. I'll wash one section, rinse it, and before the water dries, spray it with either product. No spots on my truck.

I would try to wash early in the morning or late in the evening, out of direct sunlight. If you can't get it dry before it spots, wash in sections. You can also do what is mentioned above. A spray of quick detailer or a spray wax while drying should help with the spots.

Much better today, using treated water from the water softener (I hooked up to the washing machine connection). I think I’ll plumb in a spigot in the garage to connect to for future.
