I use a clay mitt now, quick and just as effective.

I do my vehicles as soon as I buy them and at least once a year. This past year I switched to using a nano skin pad on my porter cable DA. Much faster and better results.

Tried that for the first time a few months ago and didn't find it as effective, so I switched back to clay bars. Perhaps I was doing something wrong...

But to answer the Op's question. Yes, twice a year, at least.

I also clay all my vehicles once a year, followed by 1 or 2 step polish and topped with a sealant.

Once a year, twice if it isn't garaged or put a pile of miles on it. Follow it up with a good couple of coats of wax.

I did my wife's G8 the over a week ago due to some overspray that got on the car somewhere. Took 6 hours for the complete detail, strip, clay and 2 coats of wax. Still slick and shiny. I'll do my truck when we have a little nicer weather.

I have been torn with whether to use sealant or not. Lots of mixed reviews.

Sealants outlast wax... most sealants are layer able so after it cures, you can top it with a fax if you like

Same here. Once a year, clay, polish, wax
in the fall. Spring is sometimes polish depending on condition, then just wax. So basically every 6 months truck gets a spa day
