Ziebart / Rustproofing
Truck is new 2014 F150 XLT Supercrew. Any opinions on whether Ziebart or other rustproofing treatment would be helpful. The local Ziebart Franchisee is going to install Rhinoliner and bedcover, but did not even mention the rustproofing treatment. Thanks for any advice on this.
I worked at a dealer for a few years and every truck/car that the customer sent out for ziebart before purchasing came back looking like crap. Overspray EVERYWHERE, not to mention that have to drill holes in the body and seal them with cheap rubber plugs that fell out all the time, and just was a mess in general. A buddy of mine had his focus ST rustproofed and the first couple of years he had it, when it got really hot out the stuff would start melting inside and get all runny again, creating that gross smell again for the whole summer. For me, its not really worth it when they start drilling holes in the body.
Total waste of money in my book. The bodies on the newer Ford's are holding up much better than the older vehicles. Wife has 250,000 on her Focus and the body is just starting to show rust. That's impressive in my book.
I remember taking the door panel off a vehicle that had received the Ziebart treatment. The spray was applied to the center of the door panel with none reaching the bottom seam. When was the last time you saw a door rot out in the middle?

First Congrats on the new truck.
As for the rustproofing, it's a personal choice.
How long do you plan on keeping the truck? What type of climate do you live in?
what type of driving conditions? (Dirt roads, winter deicer, live by the ocean?)
How often will you be able to wash it? Is the truck parked indoors?
Personally I choose to rustproof my new to me 2012 XLT Screw as I plan on driving it for at least 10yrs.
I live in Michigan where roads are heavily salted in winter. I live on a dirt road. There are many hot days / cold nights where condensation forms on surfaces and runs down interior panels. And I just want it to keep looking nice.
As for the process I choose Krown rustproofing which is fogged into the inner cavities of the frame as well as sprayed on the exterior. I also choose to install wheel well liners and mud flaps and rinse the underside with plain water every couple of weeks. To me its a small price to pay for the added protection on a large expense item like a truck.
