If you think you’re going to save money by buying extended warranties in the long run then you don’t understand how business works. They wouldn’t be selling them unless they were paying out less in repairs than they were charging.

You can always win on one vehicle or even 2 or 3 but over the long run the house always wins just like in Vegas.

I’ve passed on extended warranties on multiple vehicles thereby saving at least $10K so far. I’ve spent maybe $500 total out of pocket. Even if I had to spend $5K tomorrow I’ve still saved at least $5K. But some people don’t think about it that way. They’d rather pay $1500 on 3 vehicles ($4500 total) to avoid paying one $3K repair. Doesn’t make sense to me. I get more “peace of mind” knowing I have that saved cash still in my pocket.

The exception is if you truly can’t afford to pay for a large repair (fixed income, etc.). In that case get the warranty and finance it with the vehicle.

Are you lucky, LOL? This is the first vehicle on which I bought an ESP, after assessing all the gadgets on a Platinum, I thought it was a good bet.

Then this forum showed me what could happen. Check this out. And please spare me from saying that you can repair it cheaper. I can't.

But what percentage of trucks actually have one of those repairs outside of the factory warranty but before the extended warranty expires?

You think Ford doesn’t know how many repairs to expect and what they cost? That’s already factored into the price of the warranty.

You can always gamble and win (?) on one or two vehicles and some with known problems have better odds than others, but it’s still a gamble and the odds are still in Ford’s favor.

Agreed the odds are in ford’s favor.

I bought it on my 2001 and it was worth it. Kept her 16 years.

Now i have a new to me 2013 but past warranty.

Rolling the dice.

Better to finance it with the truck that way you’re only paying a few dollars per month.

You can buy it any time before the 3/36 runs out but after the first year the price goes up $100.

if you finance with the truck, then you are paying a higher price for the warranty. This is where the finance guy makes his money. You will get a much better deal from flood or Ziegler.

That depends on how well you negotiate. You can always try to get the dealer to match the online prices. But if you don’t have the cash to buy it outright you may have no choice except to buy it from the dealer at the best price you can negotiate.

Based on the other posts on this same subject, I have not seen anyone able to negotiate a finance guy to those prices.

Good Luck!
