that's a wicked hit.. what will be a huge factor in fixing it or not, is that the bags didn't deploy. crazy how a 40mph front impact didn't deploy them at all.

speed doesn't mean anything when it comes to bag deployment...I've seen 20 MPH hits deploy bags.

It all has to do with rate of deceleration. The car OP hit probably moved forward some upon impact that equals slower rate of deceleration it also was a smaller car than the truck. Now if he had hit a wall or a tree or a larger vehicle. Something that doesn't move quite as easily, that means a higher decel rate which would more than likely mean airbag deployment

ah due to the transfer of energy between vehicles is what kept the bag(s) from deploying.. interesting.... however doesn't help the OPs head.. sorry to hear about the whiplash, but thankful it wasn't much worse.

the roads here in our state have been trash the last week due to the weather. Hopefully with this little warm up they will get better. Let us know what the insurance company says!

Hit the same way with my 2013, only difference was my air bag did deploy. I should be getting it back next week, that is if Ford sends the right radiator. That is $10,000 damage on my 2013

First off glad you're ok.
Wow! Holy smokes that jeep had comparatively little damage.

If its totaled, don't worry, Ford makes more of 'em every day.

Totally worth it, if you can get a Raptor!
Kidding, I'm glad you guys are ok. I'm with the half of the people who think the air bags should have fired.

Glad you're relatively OK, thankfully not worse. Myself, I'd hope they total it. Every so often, another driver would have to use my big truck, I always told them, "If you wreck it, wreck it good". There's just something about a repaired vehicle that suffered damage like that, that it's never right afterwards. Even if it is repaired satisfactorily, I'd still feel like I was violated. Can't stand it hardly if anyone else even drives my vehicle, except my wife. Always seems like someone else had to mark their territory.

^ I agree with this. Just seems like something didn't get tightened back up, or just tweaked a little bit.

I doubt that will be a total unless there is frame damage, and even that is no guarantee. All depends on percentage of cost vs value. With no interior damage from airbags, that lessons the total factor, and as long as the cabin is undamaged, that is all fixable.

Curious that with that much front damage, that the bag didn't deploy, so the deceleration must not have been too great. This would be a good reason to have a dash cam, it would show the amount of deceleration as well as the cause.

Based on the condition of the front end, I'd say the deceleration was pretty significant. You wouldn't get that much damage if there wasn't a rapid change in velocity. Air bags should have deployed IMO. Glad you weren't more seriously hurt.
