Yep, experience is the real changer. And a bit of common sense, which is an Oxy I think. When you get snow, and are able to, go find an empty parking lot as suggested and have at it. Knowing how your vehicle is going to react is important info.. In Delaware we really don't get a lot of snow. But when we get it, we get it. We usually get the sloppy dangerous stuff. The kind of stuff that thaws/refreezes and gets crusty. Up until last year I was using concrete blocks (about 250lbs.?) strapped in with rope and a 2x4 four. Once in the bed it stayed all winter. Having back issues I needed something else easier to manage, hence the Shurtrax. I just leave it in the bed ready to go. When the nasty stuff is on it's way, just takes a few minutes to fill. When properly filled it can freeze and be fine. I live in the Burbs on private property so filling/draining is no issue for me. Works fine for me. Just a matter of preference I guess....

4x4 years back was riding my tail in a bad storm with about a foot of fresh snow on the ground ...dummy goes to pass me on a bad curve. He honks 2 times and flipped me off as he passed me.
I drive around the curve, he was in a ditch.
I honked twice and waved as I drove by

Slow down? Whom ever would think like that.

Originally from an area where I raced on frozen lakes and made use of true winter roads often, I have to say the most important thing is to know your rig. As mentioned, find yourself a nice big parking lot and start to find the limits of your truck. I personally find the traction control way too intrusive on my 2014 and shut it off in slick conditions. I do think TC has place, don't get me wrong, just I prefer not to have it on in the real sloppy or slick stuff.

I now live in Vancouver and we just got hit with some snow, first in a couple of years. People and buses crashed all over the place.

For some reason, people here in my area "Freak Out" when we get a prediction of Snow! Really, I can't get near anything. Like the market, WaWa, Happy Harry's, the Gas station...... It's like they think the power is gonna go out for days, and that they may starve or something.........And I know I'm asking for it But... they are usually the ones with the SUV with 25" rims and ribbon tires .......or the Honda/Toyota/Mitsubishi on ribbon street tires....texting

I like my F150, but I was disappointed to realize that Ford didn't have the 4A mode on my 16' XLT.

I like the AWD mode on vehicles for dealing with patchy areas caused by plowing.

Add a 37 car pile up on I75 Saturday to the winter driving toll. At least there were no fatalities in this one.

Bands of wind driven Lake effect snow can make if go from sunny to white out in seconds.

If it looks darker up ahead....SLOW DOWN!

In 4WD you need to be on the throttle in order to get the front wheels to pull -otherwise you're snowplowin'.
