Illinois law says it must be cased at all times while being transported in an automobile or truck.

As far as I know they are legal but why would you want to draw the attention to yourself. I guarantee you there are parts of Illinois - especially in Northern Illinois- where you will get stopped for it.

Look at Bass Pro or Cabelas and get one of the style that goes over the seat back and holds them out of sight.

One of my Cop friends told me years ago that the weapon had to be in the "two-step" rule.....
That is, had to be in a holster AND the console OR glovebox or under the seat out of site.

I remember a case in MIAMI where a driver with road rage approached the driver in front of his car whose driver reached "under" the seat like he was grabbing a gun (which he did not have in the vehicle) and the "road-rager" pulled out his own gun and shot him dead.

This Dick-Head was not charged because he felt his life was THREATENED!

So, word to the wise, if you're "reaching" for a weapon, make sure there is one!
there is no two step rule, it is a fallacy.

could i? most likely, but if a "concerned" citizen sees it, they also have the right to contact authorities and I have a chance of being arrested for public endangerment. Mine stays in the map door in the truck or under the seat in the car.....

the two step, three step, 0483783 step thing is always a big fallacy because those who write and sign the law and those who are expected to follow the law so that they dont get arrested......like gun owners typically are much more aware of those who document and "enforce" the law. Not that I am badmouthing law enforcement, but private citizens who also happen to be armed and informed do a better job of avoiding stupidity than those who document stupidity.

I'm from Illinois, but I think if the gun(s) are in plain view and you have a permit for them It's legal. You can always call the dmv or the Secretary of State's office.

I'm pretty sure you cannot do that in FLORIDA.......
I have a gun permit but I can't find my pamphlet.......
I know that stuff is in the book, like you can't walk into a 7-11 with a gun on your hip, no concealed weapons in a bank, municiple, State, Federal buildings.

Years ago FLORIDA passed a bill that allowed permit owners to carry guns on their person, didn't specify "concealed"....so many people (NRA Members mostly) were walking around with guns on their hip in a holster like the Old West...........
That was CORRECTED quite promptly in TALLAHASSEE.

since i already posted Illinois carry law, your information is not corret, just because one lives in a certain state, does not mean they understand the laws of that state. most all of my coworkers, many of which are from ther western side of Hispanola, still ask me how to get a license to buy a gun. It is not legal to openly carry in any way shape of form in Illinois. as I stated before, Illinois has some of the most draconian firearms laws in the republic.

Yeah the way I look at it no cop is going to randomly search your truck so just keep it out of sight...such as a holster under your seat or in a gun rack under your backseat...as a matter of face me and a buddy were riding around in his 97 f350 double cab long bed international diesel 4x4 and had a .22 in the "traditional" gun rack and drove in front of a cop right through the middle of tallahassee and there was no problem so I never worry about it...the sherrifs in north tally generally dont really care as long as your not waving it around or anything.
