Might be the best option for you but not for everyone. They provide different types of protection. I very much prefer drop in over spray.

Or perhaps I can try to take the tailgate cap off first, and then see if it will go over top?
I trimmed my liner with tin snips.

I've had them in all my trucks since 1985 and have never had a bed rust out.

But I have had fenders rust out from plastic wheel well liners.

I cut the lip off the 04-08 tailgate liner, and all bolts fit except for the 2 center ones...
boy using tin snips sure was a grip/forearm workout

cie la vie

I'm also bedlining the tailgate and the box itself.... so this is what I'll have:
line-x -> Plastic liner to prevent dents -> rubber mat to prevent sliding & a 3 piece tonneau to keep it all dry

Wow! Sounds like the best of all worlds. Talk about protection! Trojan should be ashamed.

that much I'll agree with, I've never seen a bed rust out from a drop in. my 15 year old truck has one with not a speck of rust in the box.

I looked under the liner of my last truck and there was paint worn off. I had a topper most of it's life so water rarely got under the liner. Maybe that makes the difference.

mine had a cover of some sort for long periods as well. IDK. I was expecting way worse when I had it out a couple years ago, looked fine in that regard. no paint missing or anything. faded slightly maybe. wonder what my other truck looks like under hers.

that said, when I get the chance I'm ditching it for a roll on liner. especially with an open box nowadays, not taking the chance.
