Default Stuck in Park again

O K this is my first post so the topic may have come up before.
I have a 2005 F150 Laredo package 2wd automatic overdrive tranny, crew cab. It has been a great truck for 50,000 miles mostly highway. Recently (the past 6 months) when I get in after the truck sits a while it will start right up and go into gear no problem BUT if I pull into a convience store or to get gas and go to restart and drive the button on the automatic shifter (center console) will not push in all the way and therefore I can't get it out of PARK, of course I do have my foot on the brake so I do know what I am doing. The dealer said if it happens to bang on the drivers side console real hard ? being a girl I don't know if he was just making fun or trying to make me look stupid. He said that I could drop it off and they would probably have it fixed in a day or two for between $250 and $350. Anyone evr have this problem

Welcome to the board.

There have been similar posts, to yours, here before, so you are not the only one. It could be something called a neutral safety switch, or whatever they are called nowadays. This switch is what tells the computer that you have your foot on the brake pedal and then it allows the shifter to be moved out of park. If the switch goes bad, then the computer won't let you shift into drive. Not sure how much it would cost to have it replaced, but you could shop around Vegas for a better price.

Good luck!

It's actually called the shift interlock, sometimes it's a cable or it could be an electric solenoid. When you put foot on brake it allows you to shift from park with key on of course.

I had that problem on my '04. But mine just locked me out completely, not once in a while. I have to replace the shift interlock but can't afford it right now so I dissabled it. Ya, I know thats not safe but I was quoted about $400.00 parts only. This happened about a year ago so maybe it's cheaper now, I'll have to check soon.
Anyway, if you get locked out, lift the cup holder assy and you will see a tab on the drivers side of the shift interlock that will override the Park lock feature. Push the tab, shift out of park, release tab. As soon as you release the tab, the shift interlock is active again. You will have do this everytime you get locked out until you replace the part.

According to a google search the most common problem is the brake switch which activates the interlock selenoid so you can pull the shifter out of park.

Could be a dealer installed dress up kit, kinda like the "Texas Edition" Packages here. Basically an XLT with chrome dressed wheels (either steelies with covers or the chrome Lariat wheels) and a few badges to denote the difference.

This probably resides along the same concept.

when it happens make sure all of your brake lights work because my 05 if you have a burnt out brake light that will cause it to not go into gear

I had the same problem with my 2005 F150, it would not shift out of park. If I kept my foot on the brake pedal, after 10 to 60 seconds, I would hear a click and then it would shift out of park. My truck has a column shift, and the manual says there is an override, but I never got it to work. The dealer replaced the shift lock actuator for $400, that did not fix it. The dealer then found a pin loose in the connector and made a repair for no charge, that did not fix it. Then they replaced the brake pedal position sensor switch for no charge, which replaced the socket with the loose pin, and that fixed it.
