Default Why oh why didn't FORD tow the space shuttle??

Either the EB or the 6.2 would have been GREAT choices for Ford to bid for that space shuttle tow in L.A........I can't stand the Toy commercials bragging that they did that. With their weak, flexible frames, they are the WORST of the 4 manufacturers for towing any significant weight.......makes me gag that Ford or at LEAST one of the USA brands did not get this done......

I'm sure it all came down to money. The real joke is that it probably could have been towed with a Ford Fusion. How do you think "strong men" can pull a 747 jet?

Probably a 1% or 2% downgrade.....that's the only way that I think the TOY could have gotten that much weight even moving without twisting the u-joints right off........416,299 pounds????? c'mon!!!!!!!!!!!!

Exactly^. It's not hard to get something rolling as long as the tires are properly inflated.

My favorite part of the commercial is when they show the drive shaft/differential and the rear axle twists up and wraps like crazy. And we think F-150's have an issue with axle wrap...

Next time you see that commercial, pay attention to the fine print at the bottom of the screen. It says something about "never doing this, as it is hugely beyond the tow rating of this vehicle."

Well......as it would be for any of the half ton pickups.......nice disclaimer though!
I'll have to pause the TV next time I see that (GAG!) commercial and read that disclaimer word for word.

Was watching it with the wife and she was all, "wow...look at that!" That was when i started to read the bottom, and i was like, "HA! Look look look!! It says never to do that!" And she mentioned the whole strongman thing, where they pull 747's like a previous poster said.

My guess is that shuttle was completely stripped down to its bare frame and shell. What was the real weight of that shuttle being pulled as we all know there is no truth in advertising anymore..
