I actually liked the look of GMC over my F-150 and went to the dealer, found one I liked but just couldn't do it. Like I've said I've never owned any domestic vehicle or a truck but people I know seem to have more problems with GM products. With that in mind, I would kick myself if I bought the GMC and it had the usual GM gremlins. GM, to me, seem to have good powertrains but it's the rest of the car that falls apart.
My Mom had a Buick Park Avenue when I was a kid. The engine was strong (transmission not so much it had to be replaced before 50,000 miles I think) but all the plastic outside and inside broke up and fell off or started peeling. Paint faded, hood or trunk wouldn't stay up without a prop and lots of other little things. But that car, to this day, had the coldest air conditioning I've ever experienced and it never broke or leaked. She bought an Oldsmobile that leaked oil and ate alternators the 4 years she had it. Bought another Olds that broke down 3 days after she bought it and needed the engine rebuilt.
Her sister had a Mercury Grand Marquis and it didn't have half the problems of the Buick and they were bought the same year. The exterior and interior stayed in excellent shape and the odometer rolled over twice with no major problems. It did, however, have problems with the power windows, locks and seat. The 302 V8 never broke down but started to burn and leak oil in her old age but the AOD transmission was flawless in the 10 years she owned it.
My uncle who was a mechanic and all around handy man always drove Fords. And he bought his wife Fords until she insisted on a Chevy Suburban. It had all the same rattle trap interior pieces my Mom's old Buick had 15 years before.
Bought my truck based on this and haven't had one regret. Love my Ford.

Old Fart
My buddy had a 327 in a 64 Impala, the thing ate condensers and he didn't know how to change the points and condenser but I did. Distributor was visible from the front of the car with Binoculars but seriously it was almost a requirement to climb into the engine bay to get to the it.So no Small Block GM. GM's were also rusty in a few years
My Mom had a 76 Chrysler Cordoba that had rust on the trunk lid and bottoms of the doors after 1 winter as well as every Dodge pick up running around in Massachusetts having a rusty bed after 2 years. My 72 Ranchero at least made it for 5 years before it had Visible rust and have been a Ford guy ever since.
Plus you just can't beat the way a Cammed 351 Cleveland sounds.

It really surprises me you didn't have enough room for an infant seat in the Ridgeline. I had in infant seat in the rear of my Frontier for a year and I only had to move the passenger seat to about the middle of it's track, which still left plenty of legroom for my 5'5" wife. And the Ridgeline has more rear legroom than the Frontier does in the second row.

I think it had to do with the way the passenger seat angled back. There was plenty of room at the floor in the rear, but up at the height the car seat was at, the seat back was pushing into the car seat to the point we couldn't get it out without moving the seat forward. My wife is 5'10' and her knees were only half an inch from the dash. Doable for short trips, but uncomfortable for much longer than that. Mostly it came down to safety though. You don't want to be anywhere near that close to the dash in an accident.

I prefer the Tahoe for SUVs and Corvette's for sports cars, but for me Ford still ticks all the boxes on trucks.
1. Powertrain offerings (TT 3.5 and 10 speed trans) - Nothing in the industry tops the power and fuel efficiency.
2. Only manufacturer that offers a console shifter (big selling point for me)
3. Cavernous interior (SCREW)
The horrible headlights on the non 502a trucks really had me looking at the Silverados, but in the end that was an easy problem to fix compared to item #1 on my list.

I started out looking at Ram ecodiesel, but after 6 months of research decided they weren't for me. Was never interested in gas Ram. I really liked the GMC Denali with the 6.2, but was more than I wanted to spend on a truck. I did like the Sierra/Silverado as well with the 5.3, but after having trouble with cylinder deactivation on our honda, I was hesitant to buy another engine running a similar technology.
I was already leaning towards the f150 with the 3.5 or 2.7. the technology they use and that the 3.5 was in it's 2nd generation with lots of people liking what they had swayed me. The safety ratings swayed me and my wife. and I loved driving it. it's been a long time since i've had a truck and I was amazed at how nice really all of the new ones are, but I think the engine and transmission in the Ford really set it apart. the entire family loves going on trips in it.
