i was in my geography class, it was my sophomore year, but all schools in the county were NOT allowed to turn on any tvs or radios, they did not want us to see or hear about it until we got home. we were supposed to go on like nothing happened, but my teacher was like f*** them(only he said it) and turned it on.

I was trying to figure out my mi inlaws let my daughter stand there and watch it all. To this day she will ask me if a plane is going to hit a building. She freaks out every time we go by the airport.

I was at work, only had sporadic chances to get updates - mainly via Internet news sources (the plant is in a remote area, no TVs with outside reception, and poor radio reception in the plant - isolated so couldn't really see others' activities outside of the plant grounds).
At first, it was disbelief and the related paralysis - like, what the f*#@ is going on? After the second tower fell, reality kicked in as we were ordered by our headquarters to secure the facility (a power plant - 1,200 megawatt electric power generating station). My boss was a crop duster in his off time, and he had taken the day off to do so. He came into the plant around noon and shared that he had been ordered to set his plane down immediately under the implied threat of being put down by military craft.
This event caused a heightened security level to be enacted that still is in force today. The plant now has access to satellite TV news channels, has satellite phone capability, and many other security upgrades. Terrorist scenarios are now regularly conducted as exercises (what do we do if....). Geez.

That stinks. My kids were too young to see or understand anything, which I guess was good.

firefighters, ems, police, and all emergency personel operate alot like our armed forces.training,training,training.so when the bottom drops out its like second nature.i often wonder as we do disaster drills how do you make the choice between staying with your family and keeping them safe and going to work.thats where the family like your inlaws come in.if i remember correctly it was like you were watching in amazement.the full picture was not realized until the second plane.

I was deployed in Kosovo. We were picking up some incoming troops, and we were getting a little downtime at the MWR (Morale, Recreation and Welfare) Tent and it was on the big screen TV in there. I ran out of the building after the second plane hit, and ran to my HMMWV (hummer to you civilians) and told my Platoon Leader we were going to war. He told me I was full of crap (expletive replaced). Then over the camp intercomm came an announcement that all personnel were locked down in the camp and we were all to assume a high threat security posture (pull security on the perimeter). After 3 days on pulling security, we went back to our main base, and were told that our replacements were arriving early, because we were the closest force at the time. Our replacements ended up being a force from Russia. As soon as they arrived, we trained them on what needed to be done, and left week and half later .. directly to Afghanistan! There we linked up with another unit from our home base, and we started bringing the fight back to the Taliban and Al Qaeda..

I was remodeling a shopping mall and we were just coming back from our break when the reports of the first plane came in. The boss stopped work when the second plane was announced. Then we were glued to radio for the next hour.

We truly take a lot for granted. Forget the football 'heroes' and movie 'stars'. Pass this on so that all may know the price of freedom.
