Wheel Repair
 

I bent my (aluminum) rim enough for the tire to loose air. Turning right, my right rear tire slipped into a hole created my semi trucks turning. The inside lip of the wheel caught on the edge of the paved road.

I was able to pound it back 99.5%. Air leaked at the bend at a rate of 1 psi/day.

Does anyone have experience with WHEEL REPAIR SHOPS ?

Should I discard the wheel or have a repair shop work on it ?

Don't know where you live, but it may be cheaper to buy a wheel from Craigslist or a wrecking/pull-a-part yard.

I've had a few, maybe 5, repaired. Some held air some didn't. The two different shops I've used made the wheel look and function like brand new. Cost has been around $100-$150 .

I spent $100 at NW Wheel Repair and the used rim I bought for my previous vehicle was like new.

You didn't say where you're at, but there's a company in OC Kaliforniastan called "Wheels America' that's a friggen MACHINE.
I don't know how they got so busy, but it's basically a wheel straightening factory, running 24 hours/day. They apparently even invented the machines they use.
I used 'em 20 years ago to straighten a $1700 BBS racing wheel that I caught on the edge of a trailer and put a nice kink in .
Only cost $100 or so and was good as new when they finished

I am located in Atlanta.

When the "accident" occurred, I was TOTALLY SURPRISED at how much my truck fish-tailed and was out-of-control. Because of this alone, I ordered a new wheel and tire, primarily because I do not want a catastrophic failure some day on the interstate. $450 + $200 OUCH !!

I still have the old wheel and a NEW TIRE (it was under warranty) so I am contemplating having a wheel repair shop look at and work on the wheel. I am concerned about leakage, balance, and out of square possibilities.

You can find lots of stock wheel replacements on facebook marketplace, craigslist and ebay. Even in local salvage yards. I'm not convinced that repairing a cast wheel is better than replacing it... especially considering that you and your family are in your truck at 70+mph. It's just too easy to replace it.
