I slide mine under the camper. It's a huge pain to get it in and out from under there, plus it would be noisy and its kind of hard to hide a 13' bright orange uncommon boat. Im worried about my $300 transducer though, its not fun to take off and put back on so i have to think of something for that. The actual fishfinder gets put in the camper with us.

On the rack i don't worry much, they will likely kill themselves if they try it alone, i like cheap entertainment lol.

to be honest...mine is so heavy and cumbersome there would have to be a team of Fly Fisherman with a pick up capable of NASCAR speed pit stop to get it out of my truck and into theirs. Its 85# dry with my casting bar, anchor wizard, straps etc its over 100.

Realistically though I worry every time its unattended. Which is not often. Been in a hotel once it, Other than that It goes in my truck-into the water-into my garage. Maybe instead of a ratchet strap I need to use chains and pad locks....

My friends fishing kayak has scupper plugs in it. He passes a steel cable through the scupper plugs and ties it down to his truck with a lock. Not fool proof but better than nothing. He also uses the cable to attach it to his travel trailer when he's away from the campsite.

You couldn't get me to put 1000lb on top of my truck. That's unnecessary wear and tear on your front brakes and tires, sway bars, and you're asking to roll it over. I'd rather just use a trailer. But I'm a registered Independent, so you can disregard my opinion.

It’s easier to clean and press 160 than it is to lift a 100 lb kayak. Mines only 50 lbs but to lift off the ground, over my head, and on to a rack takes about all the energy I have. It’s really difficult. I couldn’t imagine doing that to a 100 lb kayak loaded with gear.

But to answe OP question, I use a hitch extender like people use for lumber. I can’t recall if he tows or not. It’s cheaper, works with any cover, and you don’t gave to lift it as high.

Cleaned this thread up a little bit. Let's keep it civil in here and help each other out.

It's there, you just have to dig. Go to your user cp (control panel) and it will be one of the choices in the links on the left side.
