I would also join your city and surrounding city's Facebook swap pages. This is even bette than Craigslist since they are moderated and you have a name+face with people interested in buying whatever it is you're selling.

If your state requires inspection, emissions, etc, they usually have about a 90 day shelf life (at least here in Utah) so get them done in advance. The buyer will know there are no hidden gotcha's to pay for before they can register the vehicle.
Really helps if the vehicle is in less than pristine condition or older. I sold a ranger with a salvage title and the guy said he didn't haggle because he knew he could head straight to the DMV with bill of sale and inspections in hand.
