What is My GCWR???
#11
Xbow,
I too am in a similar situation in discovering my limits. I had a '15 Lariat that the figures matched the charts and it was easy to find. The '17 I just got is different. It seems I have the axle rating of the limited model so I am assuming that although I do NOT have a limited trim model, the figures match my truck. ???
It could be because my options list matches the Limited's feature-set. I will post my information for others too. Maybe they can make sense of it.
The door sticker will give you the payload rating of what you can have in/on the truck including the tongue weight of a trailer. The difference of that number from your GVWR figure is the weight of your truck with options supposedly so, 6750- payload rating = X (truck weight). Your GCVWR is 17,000 IMHO with an 11,900# tow rating with a 2wd crew 3.5 Liter Eco and 3.55 locker. You have the setup of a max tow. Check your axle code on the door. A max tow is L9. You may not have it but it will impact the weight rating as well.
Ok, my figures:
Front Axle: 3300
Rear Axle: 3800
Payload Rating 1563# It is a loaded up Plat. with 36 gallon. I figure about 100# loss with that tank of gas. The Lariat was 1720#
My tow rating (with Max tow) is what? 11,200 is the Limited model and 11,900 is the Max Tow 145" 4x2 models.

* 0.13 x 1563 = 1,456 Lb
* Add ~100 Lb. WDH for a total tongue weigh of ~1550 Lb.
Therefore the tongue weight for a 11.200 pound TT eats up all of the usable 1,563 Lb payload and the driver's weight isn't in the total yet. This is why GCVWR is so hard to max out, payload is often the limiting specification.

oh I understand about payload. My trailer has a 1000# tongue weight CAT scaled. It is supposed to be 860#. That leaves me 563# for me and cargo on this truck.
What I am curious about is what my maximum tow rating is, like Xbow. The payload is the "what is left to put in or on truck for load bearing. The tow is how much I can drag, LOL. I am not sure, having Max Tow on mine and the axles that I have if it is 11,200 like the Limited or 11,900 like a Max Tow configured super crew. It has max tow but the rest does not match. My '15 Lariat with 1720 payload and max tow had a tow rating of 12,200. I know that at least 100# of my payload loss from my previous truck is that 36 gallon tank and gas. That is what I meant by subtracting its weight- comparison. I understand they already did that to arrive at 1563#. The 157# difference I note in the two trucks- one being that it only carried 23 gallons in a smaller fuel tank and it is about 100# difference between that and 36 gallons and Ford subtracts a full tank of gas in a vehicle before arriving at stated payload figures. My trailer GVWR is 7000# so I am far from either 11K rating but just curious.

Doesn't the dash mean you go to the one above it and use that value?
Like "Ditto" marks when the values are the same?

If you have the regular towing package and the stand alone trailer brake and 3.55 locking rear, you basically DO have the max tow package. The reqular towing and max towing have the aux trans cooler. The only diff is that you may not have the aux engine oil cooler. (btw my 5.0 has th ereg towing and the 3.55 and trailer brake like yours(but the 5.0 max towing pkg don't have the aux engine cooler like the EB does) so I do have the max tow pkg without buying it

* "upgraded rear axle" (larger 9.75" ring)
* "upgraded rear bumper" beefier hitch
* "36 gallon fuel tank".
Pg 16 from the 17 towing guide, 53C highlited.

Nope. The 36 gal tank isnit a part of the max tow pkg. its a stand alone option. The 5.0 dies not need or have an aux engine cooler

And the larger axle is also not a part if the max tow either. The 3.55 is (which i have). The larger rear is a stand alone option with the larger payload pkg (627)
