Leer or Are which is the best for the money

Well I won't help much but maybe ease your mind.
I like the tonneau type lids not the toppers or cap type.
But I've seen quality, fit and finish of both via myself or my Dads truck lids.
They both have some small pluses or negatives...just simply design or features some like and some don't.
I have a Leer 700 color matched on my truck and love it. Carpeted underneath, solid latching, color is very good match.
I simply bought the Leer because the dealer is 2 miles from my house and gave me a good deal as I am a very repeat customer.
My Dad had ARE and I can safely say the same thing for them as I did above for Leer.
Just to show you the Leer, Can't see the molded ridges in this pic but I liked the Leer look, pretty plan and simple to me along with dealer being so close.
I think it's Ford or Chevy, Half ton or three quarter....Personal choice.
I don't think you'll go wrong with either....ARE or LEER that is....we have already made our truck choices on this site.

It's a toss up. Make your decision based on which dealer you like best. Go with the one that provides the best price and service. In my area Leer wins on those points. But in another area it could go the other way

I never got past looking at ARE online. Quotes were similar for the type of topper I wanted. Liked the 2 brothers running the LEER shop and just bought it from them. I'm pretty happy with it, but I can't really compare it to ARE quality. I imagine they're similar.

You need to go and look at them on the lot and have a salesperson explain the features and benefits of there product, if they can't move on. I sold Leer years ago and they where good reliable toppers, it was our bottom of the line product at the time but they where still good. A lot has change since I sold them 20 years ago. I'd be looking at the rail design, how HD the door and windows are, warranty, and do they guarantee color match.

Yes, that weird tailgate that Ford is putting on is probably something to consider. I have an ARE on 2013 F150 and it has been fine, it was one of the first curved designs. But, the rear closing window has felt weak from day one. We are careful with it and no problem yet. Just saying, these things don't close at the rear like the old clam-shell design. Otherwise, the fit, finish, paint on the ARE shell is exceptional, much better than many that I have had in the past. It's a good product and they seem to adjust better than most to the Ford tailgate changes.
