There is nothing wrong with DEF. It is a very inexpensive fluid and greatly reduces emissions. Problem is people dont like change. I can see deleting it though it would simplfy things.

Not going to find a 6.7 for $20000 unless it doesn"t include the truck.

Only problem is price... for a XLT Diesel, X-cab, 4x4 youre looking at $45,000

For the OP, the 7.3 was a very reliable engine, and does have great power. F-250 of that generation was rated to tow about 10k lbs, and Ive seen em tow 16,000. Only thing to worry about for that engine is the auto trans. Ford beefed up the auto for the 6.0 engine.

The 6 Liter from 03-04 has a bad rap sheet, and rightfully so, but they fixed the problems for the 05-07, and from what ive seen, the 05 + 6.0 are great and Once if you have the proper fixes on the 03-04 6.0 it too will be fine.

dont know as much about the 6.4, had a few small problems early, but from what ive heard its a good, powerful engine.

Good luck in your search!

FYI a mostly stock F250 set 3 world land speed records this month. Ethanol, diesel, and biodiesel. On bio diesel it went 182mph. This on a stock motor and trany. A larger fuel pump and injectors. Roll caged and parachute was added. I believe that is all the mods it had. A motorsorts company here in Oklahoma did the mods for the ford engineers. Also I didn't see a tonneuo cover either. Raw Ford power baby!

The 6.0 will never be completely fixed. I work on them for a living the 4r100 behind the 7.3 is a very basic trans very easy to rebuild and has a large aftermarket following also a programmer increases the reliability of these trans by firming the shifts changing shift points and boosting line pressure i would however go with a basic superchips programmer as this works best with the trans in these trucks. The 6.4 is also a fairly problematic engine also very hard to work on.

I know this is a ford site, but I think you might wanna look at the duramax with the Allison trans. I know several guys that come into my place and have nothing but good to say about them. The one guy has a 3500 dually with 12k loaded at almost all times( welding truck) and no problems. Dodges had that 5.9 motor but they say the torque converter was the weak link. And I didn't care for the insides at all. Just saying for what you're trying to spend dont be afraid to look at other brands.
