What engine
I'm looking to buy a new/used truck in the next few months and want to know what engine is best for towing along with long life. I currently have a 05 f150 lariat screw 5.4 with 200,000 miles on it. I've noticed some power loss when pulling our 32ft travel trailer and on hard acceleration. I believe it,s time to upgrade. The problem is I can't decide whether I should buy a used 2010 with the 5.4 or move up to new. The new would be an xlt the used would be lariat. Some dealers say the 5.0 is plenty while others say the ecoboost is the way to go. Then we got the ones who say don't worry about fuel mileage go with the 6.2 I only pull the TT around 2,000 miles per year and put on about 25,000 per year total normal driving (32 miles one way to work). What kind of life can I expect out of them? Give me some input.

The 5.0 and ecobust engines didn't come out until 2011.
Go for the 5.0, the twin turbo engines are having numerous problems.

The Ecoboost will pull that 32ft trailer better than a 5.4 or 5.0

If you tow, don't even think about driving anything other than an ecoboost.

Yeah , of you tow 8k or less get a 5.0. If you tow once or twice a year over get a ecoboost. If you tow more than that get a f250. Turbo charging or supercharging a smaller displacement engine usually shortens their lifespan. I could turbo charge to super charge and YUGO (showing my age) to tow 10k once in a while. But for long term you will fry the motor.
A ecoobost is NOT a substitute for a diesel. Diesels have even the 4 cylinder diesel trucks have huge displacements not 3.5l. They have more displacements and add a turbo to handle the additional internal stresses a load applies. They don't lower the displacement to 3.5l. That's just insane!

Nasty, your so wrong. Both trucks the same transmisson. But regardless of what rpm your pulling. The heavier it is and the smaller the displacement is relates directly Tomas increase of internal stress placed inside the motor. It's a marketing ploy. Long term heavy use will tell the future. The new vans are going to have the 3.5 and driven dalily under load will tell the future. 12 months from now will be the deciding factor.

Looked like the Eco wasn't working as hard as the V8's in these Truck Trend videos in this thread. (link below) They had the V8's floor boarded to hold 60 mph.
