Aren't you in Louisiana? Where do you run? Fresh water, salt, swamps, etc.?

I have no salt water experience. Is it troublesome for outboards?
All of the above but mostly salt water, it's not troublesome at all, just flush the motor with fresh when I get home, I have a barrel I fill up and run in afterwards.

I usually also run it a few times during the winter months to keep the fuel from gumming up the carbs.

No and yes, it's not troublesome to flush after a day on the water, power trim and tilt makes it a breeze to flush out in my barrel.

Fully agreed sir, and even that's not necessary.

Mechanics can say what they like, sat water will not hurt an engine within an unreasonable period of time

Part of the $1,500 I spent on the engine was a new water pump plate that was eaten away from salt water, albeit it's a 20 y/o motor and was still pumping, I just didn't want to take any chances.

So all in all It's not that big a deal with salt water.

no, definitely not. I'm not one to take chances either. My engine is over 20 years old, doesn't know what flushing is, doesn't run all winter, and for an older 2 stroke carbureted engine has given very little trouble. It also stays afloat all season, except to be parked for winter.

I can see the Atlantic out my bedroom window, I grew up around boats and depend on one for a percentage of my diet, in an an area where it's rare to meet someone who doesn't. Boats and outboards live in salt water for 3 out of 4 seasons, and are flushed maybe once a year, if ever (the latter being the likely scenario). I think I know what sal****er does to an outboard.

Took the truck snowboarding for the first time. The short bed is the perfect length for my snowboard! Unfortunately the driver's side windshield washer nozzle wasn't spraying at all and I was damn near blind when the wipers smeared grime all over the glass. Strangely they both work fine today.
Oh and the nutsert for the DeeZee tailgate assist finally came loose. Of course it was in the morning when I was in a rush to pickup my friends. Fixed it temporarily but I guess I'm gonna have to get that nutsert out of there now.

That is awesome dude! I grew up on and around fresh water lakes. I do live in Minnesota.

For my inboard it is recommended to install a self contained cooling system for salt water. It can be flushed after each use but it's quite a PITA compared to an outboard.

At the end of season I drain block, mufflers, transmission cooler, and all hoses. I could stop there but I fill the system with RV antifreeze.

I know a guy that had his I/O winterized and decided to go for a Thanksgiving day ride on a warm year. Come spring he had a cracked block and tried to blame it on the dealer. It's pretty obvious what he did but still won't admit his mistake.

Lol.

Sounds like you take care of your engine well. An inboard huh.

I also have a lot of freshwater around in ponds and lakes, but on those, I row.

Washed my 2014 4x4 White Platinum a couple days in a row.
Snow one day, 1F above. Next day high 58F. Snow then Sun. Snowing now. Do it yourself car wash day after tomorrow.
Been this way for weeks.

Mercruiser Magnum Tournament Ski (350 Chevy) with 4bl carburetor. Borg Warner 1:1 transmission. 265 propshaft HP It'd be nice to have fuel injection but at this point it doesn't make sense to upgrade.

I'd have preferred a 351 Ford if for nothing else, the location of the oil filter, but when I bought it new in '92 there were no engine options.

I also have some sail boats. Have had many different speed boats throughout the years. Besides the Flightcraft, my favorite was probably a Glastron GT 150 with 85 Evinrude. That thing was an absolute riot! Think James Bond Live and Let Die.
