I don't like the chrome, but didn't want the whole thing black. I didn't know they come apart like that. Now I've got an idea for my truck: black outline, ruby red insert!

Yup, there are little clips holding the insert in. A bit tricky at first but it gets easier. I used a small flat head to pry them out. The metal flat head marred the plastic slightly but on the backside of the insert which is not visible and no big deal.

Yep, also handy in driveways.

Before installing it, I couldn't get out with the door on the first stop, and would have to hold the door because it would smack the wife's door and/or mirror before it reached the other stop. Now it's perfect!

Can't tell in the picture, but the driveway has a slight slope down to the left and forward, both of which work against the door staying in position without the extra detent.

That is true. I have a '12 I couldn't be sure about earlier models. That is good for everyone to know before they go taking them off. Thanks for sharing!

Installed JL Tw13in shallow sub in my 2012 XLT. This was done months ago but never had the time to post up some pics. Let me know what you think

That's a big sub box! Does it take away much rear-seat foot space? From the pic, it looks a little crowded, what's it like to sit there?
