Differentials
2005 F-150 4X4
Changed oil in front and rear differentials. Worse part was cleaning all the "Form-a-Gasket" off the seal surfaces the factory had applied. Ended up having to use a razor blade and Scotch Brite to get it all off. The front differential was very difficult to get to and took about twice as long as the rear.
The original oil in both differentials had been superceded by a new type of oil. Bought the oil directly from Ford to avoid any problems.
Used gaskets insted of the sticky suff the factory used.
Front Differential Gasket- Part Number RDS-55341
Rear Differential Gasket- Part Number RDS-55476
The gaskets were a perfect fit and I have no leaks.
If you do the job take your time and don't skimp on the sealing surface cleaning. If you don't get it clean and free of debris it will leak.
