Really, ya did the right thing. NEVER veer for animals, and put yourself in any more danger than you're already in. I hate hitting any animal and not knowing if I killed them or not, but when you're out in the middle of BFE, you do what you have to do. I can truthfully say I've killed more deer with trucks than I ever did with a gun,

This reminds of when I first got my license and I had a sit down with our insurance agent. We got a slight discount if the agent had a conversation about driving and I will always remember him giving me permission to hit all the animals I want for that very reason
My buddies and i had a sit down with our parents in high school after our drivers training class and they all said "if a deer jumps out in front of you, hit it, don't veer. We can replace a car, but we can not replace you"
