Default Wear on outside edge of tires

I am thinking about purchasing a CPO 2015 F-150 Lariat with 21,000 miles and 20" wheels with wrangler tires. I noticed that the outside edge of the tread is worn smooth on all 4 tires. Is this common? The middle of the tire still has plenty of tread. Any suggestions?

Yes and no, thats why I rotate mine every 2500 miles to prevent any wear on edges. All of my Fords have done this, even with a correctly aligned front end and Ford saying no bad parts.

Outer wear is usually an indicator of out of alignment, improper inflation or worn part.

^^ Pretty much covers it. If it's aligned properly then tire pressure or just plain sh*tty tires are the issue.

I guess it's possible the previous owner spent all his time in a parking lot turning tight circles under throttle....

I've had 5 recent Fords (3 Expeditions, and 2 F150's starting from 2005 to now) ... and have a brother who's gone through a few as well. NONE of us have had irregular tire wear issues. In fact, my current 2014 FX4 has had Cooper STT Pros on it for 20,000+ miles, and I've rotated them twice so far. They are still well over 50% tread, with perfect wear.

I agree with idrive above ... if you're getting irregular wear, it's either low-quality tires, tire inflation issues (in this case, under-inflation), alignment/suspension issues (worn shocks/struts can affect this) ... or someone is taking turns at really high speeds causing sidewalls to want to cave/roll enough to put too much pressure on the outer edges of the treads and even get into the start of the sidewalls ...

I will say this, mine have outside wear without alignment issues and I keep that at 35psi. I rotate with oil change usually 8k but what I have noticed is that when it gets close to or past that point they start to get noisy................ very odd.

The tires have been driven under inflated. A long time.

If it's just the outside edge and not both outer edges, it's toed in too much.

More likely a camber issue.

Of all the alignments I've done over the past 35 years I can count on one hand how many times camber was a contributing factor to tire wear. 99.9% of the time it was a toe in/out issue.

Except back when Ford trucks had bendable I-Beams. but I digress.

Camber IF excessive -/+ will cause wear, toe only needs to be off a little and it will eat tires like nothing. I need to find a new pic because the one above isn't very detailed.

Not a rotation issue. Bought my 2018 FX4 Lariat new off the lot with the OE Kevlar Goodyears. I'm at roughly 40k miles. The tires have been rotated every 5k miles when the oil gets changed, but the outer shoulders are near bald with plenty of tread left on the rest of the tires.
