Trying to decide on Ecoboost or 5.0

Guys , the time has come to get a new f150 . Actually looked at the Ram and others and am staying with Ford .... also have an Escape , 1963 1/2 427 Galaxie and 1967 427 Cobra replica and don`t want a foreigner in there.... plus the others don`t measure up .
I`m familiar with V8`s , but kinda unsure about the Ecoboost and its reliability.... current 2003 Screw has almost 180,000 on it with no engine problems , and now I probably just cursed myself .
I do some towing in the mountains , but total load is under 8,000 lbs .

Comments based on experience are welcome !

Thanks

BTW , used the search function , but didn`t find what I was looking for.

Yep, a million threads on this.

But are you talking "new" as in brand new 2018? If so, the second generation 3.5L EcoBoost is supposedly a little better in terms of reliability than it's predecessor. In the past, it was 5.0 all the way simply because they are rock solid and there are countless 5.0s on the road with 200,000 to 400,000 miles on them. As of the 2018 model year, I don't think reliability is as much of a difference between the two so just pick the one you enjoy driving the most. Test drive both extensively.

As pointed out , the 5.0 has been around forever , and to me , the 3.5L is an unknown . I`ve had several turbo engines in the past and the biggest problem I`ve seen is people driving them hard or on the highway , getting off and shutting the engine down w/o letting the turbo spool down or cool down for several minutes . I always waited and that`s probably why I had no turbo problems .
The truck I`m looking at is a new 2017 model , so the Ecoboost should be the latest version .

Thanks for the links to the various threads .... now to do more homework and test drives.

All about the test drive.

We are fortunate to have many options when it comes to motors. One of them fits you and your needs.

FWIW, I wouldn't be afraid of any of the motors offered.

If you didn't find what you are looking for by searching, I'm not sure what else any of us could add because there's a ton of threads on this subject.

Bottom line, go test drive both and decide for yourself. Ford doesn't put a bad engine in the F150 right now, but the ecoboost do behave very differently from the 5.0. The 3.5 EB is a truck engine designed around the F150. The 5.0 is a car engine designed around the Mustang and made to work for the F150. Basically meaning, one likes to lug around like a diesel, the other likes to rev and sing to make power.

A lot of guys seem to think the ecoboosts are less reliable, but they seem to forget the 5.0 had it's own issues for the first couple years it was out. The older 5.4 had it's share of problems too. For most people, there isn't a noticeable difference in reliability (or fuel mileage) between the 2 engines. Or 3 engines, I guess there's 2 ecoboost options and both are excellent choices.

Nissan Titan! That's where it's at. Get the XD model with the v-8 gas engine.

I loved my Frontier, if there had been any new "used" Titan's last year, I probably would have gone that route over an F150.
